How to mend a hole in your jeans with couching applique

STEP ONE: If the hole is near the pocket, unpick part of the pocket so you’re able to fix the hole easily. Cut out strip of fusing larger than the hole and iron on, on the inside of the trouser. Make sure the jean fabric is really flat when you iron on the fusing and the ripped hole is as closed as possible. Then cut a rectangle (larger than the hole) in scrap fabric, pin onto of the fused area and stitch around the patch, securing it to the denim. If you have a sewing machine, it best to use this but if not, hand sewing around it will work too.

STEP TWO: Cut your scrap fabric into stripes (approx 10cm by 2cm but cut longer or shorter depending on how big you want the applique circles to be). Pin the strip into a loop and pin the loop onto your jeans.

STEP THREE: When all the loops are pinned, get your needle and thread and stitch around the loop. When you stitch around the loop, make sure you don’t not stitch through the fabric loop but instead you stitch around it.. Do small stitches either side of the fabric loop to it is closely secured to the jeans.
