MENDING: How to fix a hole on the inside leg of your jeans
How to fix a hole on the inside of your jeans
Step One:
- I unpicked the back pocket to use as the inside patch, if you have some scrap fabric you can use this instead
- Cut the patch larger than the hole (at least 1.5-2cm larger on all sides)
- If you have an overlocker or zigzag stitch around the edge of the patch to stop the patch from fraying.
Step Two:
- Pin the patch over the hole (on the inside of the jeans)
- When pinning make sure the fabric of the jeans is flat and you won’t stitch in any folds
- If you have a sewing machine, stitch around the patch. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can hand stitch around the patch
Step Three:
- Once the patch is stitch on and the hole is covered, get an embroidery thread and needle to visibly mend over the hole
- Stitch on top of the hole and through the patch under. Stitch all over the area, securing the worn out hole / threads of the jean to the patch to thicken the ripped area.
- This technique is like Boro mending which is a traditional Japanese method of visible mending.
